Feeling the Love…. from the heart.
Love as we know takes many, many forms.
We can take pleasure in, and find love in so many aspects of our lives and given the state that the world is in, the economy, cost of living crisis, but especially with the recent events in Turkey and Syria, isn’t it just time we just find the time to embrace the Love for the good things in our lives that we may take so much for granted, finding thanks for small mercies?
In turn there are many levels of Love, do we use the term too lightly? I don’t think so. We use it to express a deep feeling for something or someone that we feel a deep connection with, for whatever reason. If we have a connection and a passion for something, why should we not express that in words or actions of appreciation, affection, and passion?
We may have Love for a sunrise in the morning, a sunset in the evening, for clouds, for landscapes, in fact the pleasure we find in the everyday. Or Love for an interest we may have for a hobby or past time, a passion for creating homemade items, cookery, baking or sporting activities, but that connection we find in these things is a true feeling that should be expressed, celebrated, and shared.
Love in itself creates a whole rush of “feel good factor” pheromones. Just “feeling good” today with all the stresses and strain in life helps us get through.
Of course, true self love is something we all need to do a little more of. Too often we tell ourselves that we are not good enough for one reason or another. If we are good people, don’t lie, steal, cheat, hurt other people, look after our family, parents, children, what more do we need. Does it matter if we are not super mum, if a to do list at work is not complete, if the dog didn’t get walked, dinner got burned, and the house a little dusty. Who cares? It will all still be there the next day and to feel love for yourself at the end of your day, knowing you did your best at every turn then that is all we can wish for, tomorrow is another day!
Does Love sometimes come at a price? Do we find comfort in the words of a poem “better to have lost and loved than never to have loved at all”?
The expression has its source in Canto 27 of In Memoriam (1850) by Alfred, Lord Tennyson:
The poem is a requiem for Tennyson's friend Arthur Henry Hallam, who died suddenly of a cerebral haemorrhage in 1833. Written over 17 years, it is considered to be one of the great poems of the 19th century.
“I hold it true, what e’er befall, I feel it when I sorrow most
‘Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all”.
He is saying the pain of loss does not outweigh the pleasure of love.
Does Love in whatever form make us reckless? Does it make us do things we would not normally do? Maybe, perhaps getting into position for the best possible photography shot, perhaps coming out of our shell in a different way to make an approach for the job of your dreams, or the person for that matter. But what is the worst that can happen? A shot is blurred or out of focus, the job may not be for you and that person, maybe you just had a lucky escape, but why not try, what is for you will never go by you! Is more pain testament to how deeply you love? Perhaps, but the joy in feeling a Love and passion and taking pleasure in it for however long, must be one of the best things in life that we experience.
Our balms also evoke feelings of Love, not just our Love balm but some of the blends’ fragrance may remind us of a lost moment in time, until we inhale something that recalls a beloved memory, of special times and people. A smell or fragrance can remind you of times you have loved, for me cut grass, always reminds me of my dear dad cutting the grass on late hot summer evenings, it is still light and I am begging to be let out of my room to play, because “it is not dark yet”. Our memories connect us deeply to those feeling of love, whatever that memory may be, and they can sometimes make us a little wistful, but the love and connections can take us back decades in time to enjoy once again.
Whatever your love is, wherever it lies, in a person place or pastime, embrace it, revel in it, hold on to it for as long as possible, for it may be short lived.
Doesn’t a little more love in the world make everything seem just a little bit better?
We, at Scentered, think so.
